Theme: Making a Flyer

 

Introduction

Creating a flyer to advertise your dance class is a tradition in DAN 385. Every semester, students use their creativity to imagine their own dance class, how to frame it and let people know about it. Usually, this activity is done in class to then share. This semester, the flyer will be completed at home. However, this will not diminish the excitement the activity brings to those eager to let others know about their dance lesson.

 A flyer is a form of paper advertisement intended for wide distribution and typically posted or distributed in a public place, handed out to individuals or sent through the mail. Today, flyers range from inexpensively photocopied leaflets to expensive, glossy, full-color circulars.

Case Study 
 
One of the most important and familiar marketing tools within square dancing are flyers. But a quick look at most flyers posted on Facebook seem amateurish at best. Canva.com is a marketing website which anyone can use, regardless of skill level. This video cover the basics. Signing up, how to create your first flyer, changing text information, font size, font color, and provide tips on what information you should include on every flyer. Even more important: what information you should not include. If you are responsible for creating flyers for your club / organization, this video hosted by Ray Owens will be helpful.
